Carrier Dome - Syracuse, N.Y.
Evan Brady, Sr., D
On what needs to change this season:
“Well, there’s a lot of things I know that we worked on at the end of last year. We sat down – a lot of the guys who were returning – we kind of went over some things that went wrong in the season. From there, we came up with turnovers were one big thing. We had trouble clearing the ball and our team defense. We had a lot of different defenses and I don’t think everyone was on the same page most of the time when we were switching defenses back-and-forth. So, we simplified things. Now, we have one base defense and try to get really good at that.”
On injury suffered during the fall:
“This fall, I had a little bit of an issue, but it’s good to go now. I’ve completely rehabbed and I’m looking forward to the season.”
Mike Leveille, Sr., A
On influx of new talent:
“This year, at every position we have more depth then maybe we’ve had in any of the other four years that I have been here. That leads to a lot of competition. The new guys are coming in with a lot of energy and effort, it just drives to make everybody better and our practices a lot better.”
On advice to first-year players:
“They know where they stand and they are working hard to fight for a position like everybody else. It’s a long season and there’s a lot of ups and downs. They just need to stay grounded the whole way through and keep working hard.”
On last season as motivation:
“We certainly don’t want to forget about that and don’t want to back to anything like that. At the same time, it’s a brand new season and a new start. We’re looking to get off to a better start right from the beginning.”
Kenny Nims, Jr., A/M
On this year’s potential:
“Last year with what happened, we feel embarrassed at times. We know that we have a lot of talent and can do big things this year. It’s up to us and how bad we want it.”
On being back at practice:
“It’s fun having everyone back and we’re having real competitive practices. Everybody is going hard and it’s fun to have everybody out there. Hopefully, we’ll reach our potential and have a good season.”
Peter Coluccini, Jr., GK
On the competition at goalie:
“I think all of the goalies are learning from each other. You learn a little something from the guy next to you. It’s just great to have [John Galloway] there and have him push me. I pick up things the way he plays and he’s picking up things with the way I play. It’s great.”
On what it will take to win the position:
“The goalie most importantly has to be consistent. You have to value the ball, you have to make saves. There is a bunch of intricate parts of playing goalie, but if you come in day-in and day-out and try your best, hopefully it works out.”
On last season as a source of motivation:
“You learn from it. It’s one of those situations where you want to forget it but you want to take something from it. You come out here with a chip on your shoulder. The guys on the team this year are very motivated. After you have a losing record after 25 years, that kind of stays fresh in your mind. It’s a motivator, it’s a catalyst. It makes you come out here every day and try your best. It’s good for us.”
