Spring, 2004 Cheerleading Tryout Information
Syracuse University is a large school in Syracuse, New York, about 90 miles east of Buffalo. SU boasts outstanding academics, excellent facilities, and one of the nation's leading Division I athletic departments. Our football and men's basketball teams are consistantly ranked in the top 25 in the nation every year, and our men's lacrosse team is a contender for the national championship every year. We also have the nation's best on-campus sports facility, the Carrier Dome, the only on-campus dome in the nation and the only domed stadium in the Northeast. The Carrier Dome seats over 50,000 fans for football and over 30,000 for basketball, providing a unique and exciting atmosphere for college sports.
Tradition
SU athletic teams are part of a proud tradition. Jim Brown, Floyd Little, Ernie Davis, Larry Csonka, Dave Bing, and Derrick Coleman all wore SU's orange and blue, as have dozens more men and women who made their mark on their sports. With our two most popular sports, men's basketball and football, being among the best in the nation every year, SU offers cheerleaders the opportunity to cheer for top-caliber sports for most of the acedemic year, as well as the opportunity to travel to bowl games and post-season tournaments. Every weekend during football season and at least once a week during basketball season, you'll have the chance to cheer in front of huge crowds at games that are televised across the nation. As a member of the BIG EAST conference, almost all of SU's games are televised.
Experience
As an SU cheerleader, you'll experience what college cheerleading is all about: big-time sports, bowl games, away football games, tournaments, big crowds, national TV, and a huge, wild stadium. It's something that every cheerleader dreams of but few ever experience - and it's all here at SU.
Friendship
Many of the people you will meet in college will be your friends for life - and some of them will be your teammates. The bonding and comraderie that you'll experience cheering for SU is something that you'll never forget: the away trips, practices, pre-camp practice, UCA Summer Camp at Rutgers are experiences that you'll never forget.
What Else?
As an SU cheerleader, you will also receive free sneakers, warm-ups, and duffel bags from Nike. All your travel expenses will be paid, including food, as will your camp fees. You'll have the best seats in the house for top-caliber football and basketball games, and you're sure to make it on TV every once in a while. You'll appear on behalf of the university at community events and appearances, so you'll have an opportunity to give back to the community. And finally, you'll serve as role models for the youth of the community that come to the games to support the Orangemen.
