3.23.09 | Men's Lacrosse, Kids Club

One of the oldest lacrosse rivalries in Central New York is renewed on Tuesday, March 24 when the second-ranked Orange (5-1) hosts No. 17 Hobart (5-1) at 7 p.m. in the Carrier Dome. The match is the 95th meeting in a series that dates back more than 90 years. The Statesmen are the Orange’s oldest rival as Hobart was SU’s first-ever varsity lacrosse opponent back on April 26, 1916.

The two most storied programs in college lacrosse renew their annual rivalry on Saturday, March 14 when No. 6 Johns Hopkins (3-1) invades the Carrier Dome for a 2 p.m. matchup with No. 2 Syracuse (3-1). It marks the 27th consecutive season the two schools have met at least once dating back to 1983. Saturday’s game is a rematch of last year’s NCAA title game won by the Orange, 13-10, at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Mass.

The Syracuse men’s lacrosse team (2-0) hosts Virginia (4-0) in a matchup of the nation’s two highest-ranked teams on Friday, Feb. 27 at 7 p.m. in the Carrier Dome. The Orange maintained its position as the top-ranked squad in the land for the third straight week in the USILA Coaches’ Poll. The Cavaliers are No. 2. In the NIKE/Inside Lacrosse Media Poll, Virginia is No. 1, while the Orange is listed second. Friday night’s game is the second half on an SU-Virginia men’s and women’s lacrosse doubleheader. The institutions’ women’s teams clash at 4 p.m. in the Dome.

Top-ranked Syracuse (1-0), fresh off a dominating season-opening victory against Providence, will take on its first nationally-ranked opponent when No. 18 Army (1-0) visits the Carrier Dome on Friday, Feb. 20 at 7 p.m. The game is a matchup of two of the winningest programs in college lacrosse as Syracuse (778 wins) and Army (700 wins) are two of only five Division I schools to boast at least 700 all-time victories.
