PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Junior guard Chandrea Jones earned BIG EAST Honor Roll accolades on Monday after averaging 21.5 points and 7.5 rebounds in a 65-59 setback against top-ranked Connecticut on Tuesday, Jan. 15 and a 73-60 victory at Villanova on Saturday, Jan. 19. This is the third time this season Jones has been recognized by the conference. She was named to the honor roll on Dec. 10 and Dec. 31.
The Baltimore, Md. native, posted a team-high 18 points, including 12 in the second half, against Connecticut in front of a SU women's basketball record-setting crowd of 4,221. Jones logged 33 minutes and added three assists and five boards.
She followed her performance with a game-high 25 points behind 8-of-18 shooting, including 1-of-3 from three-point land. She earned her fifth career double-double by grabbing 10 rebounds. For the game, she was 8-of-9 from the charity stripe and contributed seven points during the Orange's 19-4 game-winning run during the final six minutes.
This season Jones is leading the team with 16.9 points per game and is third with 7.9 rebounds per game. She has score 15 or more points in 14 games and has scored in double-figures in 17-of-18 games. Her 12 blocks are third best on the team.
The Orange returns to the Carrier Dome on Saturday, Jan. 26 for a 2 p.m. contest against St. John's.
