PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Freshman forward Donte' Greene has been named the BIG EAST Rookie of the Week for the third time this season, the conference announced Monday. Greene averaged 21.5 points and collected six rebounds per outing as the Orange opened the BIG EAST season with back-to-back victories against St. John's and USF.
Greene tallied 22 points on 8-for-15 shooting overall, including a 4-for-8 long range display, in Syracuse's 76-70 BIG EAST win against the Red Storm on January 2. The 6-11 Baltimore, Md. native shot 3-for-6 from beyond the arc en route to posting 21 points, corralling nine rebounds and blocking three shots in an 89-77 triumph against the Bulls on January 5.
Greene is second in the BIG EAST and leads the Orange attack with 19.1 points per outing through 15 games in 2007-08.
Junior center Arinze Onuaku earned Honor Roll distinction after leading all scorers with a career-high 23 points and grabbing 13 rebounds for his fourth-career double-double in SU's victory against St. John's. In a matchup pitting two of the BIG EAST's premiere post players, Onuaku tallied 16 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for his second double-double in as many contests against USF center Kentrell Gransberry.
Onuaku is second in the BIG EAST and leads Syracuse with an efficient 68.5 percent shooting clip from the field.
The Orange returns to the road for the first time in more than one month against BIG EAST foe Cincinnati on Wednesday, January 9 at 8:00 p.m. SU fans can catch the Orange and Bearcats on ESPN Regional (Time Warner 26).
