SYRACUSE, N.Y. –
Freshman guard Erica Morrow's three-point shot with 25 seconds left struck the back of the iron, caromed level with the shot clock and fell softly through the net to give the RV/RV Orange a 68-67 victory on Tuesday inside the Carrier Dome. Morrow tallied a game-high 22 points and led the Orange to its 12th home victory. Syracuse avenged a 78-71 loss at Georgetown on Feb. 2 and is now 21-6 and 9-5 in the BIG EAST. Georgetown goes to 14-13 and 4-10 in the conference.

Despite a 17-2 Georgetown run to open the second half and a 57-45 lead at the 10:53 mark, Morrow ignited an 11-2 run that pulled the Orange within two (64-62) at 3:59 when sophomore forward Nicole Michael put back her own rebound and then sunk a three the next possession down the floor.

Two free throws by Georgetown guard Meredith Cox increased her team's lead to 66-62, but three straight free throws by Morrow closed the gab to one (66-65) at 1:03. Georgetown senior center Aminata Diop made a free throw with 41 ticks remaining to go ahead, 67-55.

Morrow swung from underneath the hoop and junior guard Cintia Johnson found her at the top of the leftwing. The freshman fired and nailed her fourth three-pointer of the game. After a pair of timeouts, the Orange defense stood tall and forced Georgetown to call time with only 0.09 seconds remaining. Georgetown had sophomore forward Jaleesa Butler wide open from behind the arc, but her shot missed long.

Morrow has reached double-digits in scoring 18 times this season and has surpassed the 20-point mark three times. She added four assists and a team-high two steals to her stat line.

Morrow and freshman guard Tasha Harris became the first Orange tandem since Sue Ludwig (158) and Janice Long (102) in 1985-86 to each tally more than 100 assists in a season. Morrows now has a team-best 105, while Harris' team-high five assists gives her 101.

Two other Orange student-athletes scored in double-figures and senior forward Fantasia Goodwin reached the 10-plus point mark for the 19th time by contributing 14 points. Michael ended with 12 points and led the team with nine rebounds.

The Orange shot 41.5 percent (22-53) from the floor, 50.0 percent (7-14) from the three-point line and 70.8 percent (17-24) from the foul line.

Syracuse won its 21st game this season when outrebounding its opponents. On Tuesday, the Orange pulled down 38 rebounds, while the Hoyas grabbed 36.

Morrow paced the Orange early and could not be stopped from downtown in the first half. The Brooklyn, N.Y. native drained her first three three-point attempts and began and ended a Syracuse 12-2 run from 15:22 to 12:22. The Orange streak was in response to Georgetown's hot start that put the Hoyas up 11-3 at 16:11

The lead changed hands nine times during the opening period and SU grabbed its first lead, 15-13, thanks to Morrow's third trifecta. Basketball fans in attendance received a three-point shooting show halfway through the first when the two teams made a combined five consecutive treys. Morrow had one and Jones added two straight for the Orange.

Head coach Quentin Hillsman's group put together eight straight points from 6:46 to 5:13 for a 33-29 lead, but the Hoyas answered with four straight to pull even (33-33) at 3:20. Goodwin led a 6-2 charge by scoring four points and gave the Orange a 39-35 lead before Georgetown senior guard Kristin Heidloff nailed a free throw to send the game into halftime, 39-36, in favor of the Orange.

For the game, the Hoyas shot 41.7 percent (25-60) from the field, 33.3 percent (6-18) from the range and 61.1 percent (11-18) from the charity stripe.

Georgetown had four players in double-digits with Diop and junior guard Karee Houlette leading the way with 12 points each. Junior forward Kyrstle Hatton produced 11 and Cox had 10.

SU plays its second-to-last regular season game when it travels to No. 4/4 Rutgers on Saturday, Mar. 1 for a 1 p.m. battle.
