Kyle Heath set a Syracuse school record with a time of 4:01.68 in the one-mile run at the University of Washington's Last Chance Meet on Saturday. Heath surpasses teammate
Jordan Davis' mark of 4:02.79, set at the Giegengack Invitational on February 2.
Heath finished fourth in the section I finals. Oregon's Andrew Acosta (3:58.52) and Nebraska's Peter van der Westhuizen (3.59.05) broke the four-minute barrier, finishing first and second, respectively.
Davis' performance earlier this season eclipsed a 36-year standard, established by Bruce Fisher in 1972. In the same race, Heath matched the school record with a time of 4:04.30.
Junior Jeff Scull placed first in the 3,000m run with an NCAA-qualifying time of 8:04.95. Scull's performance is .15 shy of matching the Orange school mark of 8:04.80, set by Jim O'Connell in 1983.
