The official Universal Pictures movie trailer for the
Ernie Davis biopic "The Express" hit movie theaters across the country last weekend. It features the voice of Syracuse alum
Bob Costas describing the remarkable accomplishments of Davis' predecessor,
Jim Brown to set up the story of Davis. For the next two minutes, viewers are taken on a whirlwind journey through the proud story of SU's most endearing icon. Clips from the trailer have already been featured on "Entertainment Tonight" and other nationally syndicated television programs.
Syracuse University Athletics Director of Media Properties and Production
Roger Springfield, who has screened the entire movie, says the action-packed trailer is a good representation of the film.
"I think it really captures the essence of the story, its poignancy and the dramatically photographed and edited football scenes," Springfield said.
"The movie is exceptionally well done and remains true to the story. It is meticulous in its authenticity. However, that being said, people must understand it's not a documentary, but a dramatic representation of Ernie's life. Not every detail will be exactly the way some people remember it. Most importantly, the film does honor Ernie, his family and teammates. In the words of Jim Brown, who has also seen the completed film, they 'got it right'. I have no doubt this movie will become a classic."
Syracuse University Athletics has created a link to the Universal Picture's movie page on
SUathletics.com. The studio's website,
www.theexpressmovie.com features the movie trailer and a photo gallery. "The Express" starring
Dennis Quaid as Coach
Ben Schwartzwalder and
Rob Brown ("Finding Forrester") as Ernie Davis opens nationally on October 3.
