SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Sophomore guard Erica Morrow was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll for the second consecutive week for her performances against Princeton and Georgetown last week. Morrow averaged 25.0 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 2.0 assists in Syracuse's two contests. Morrow's award marks the fifth time an SU student-athlete has been appointed to the weekly conference honor roll.
The Brooklyn, N.Y. native scored a career-high 29 points in SU's BIG EAST opener at Georgetown on Jan. 3. She was 5-of-10 (.500) from behind the 3-point arc. Morrow also made 10-of-13 (.769) from the free-throw line. She added three assists, two rebounds and two steals in 35 minutes. Against Princeton, Morrow scored a game-high 21 points in SU's 70-61 win on Dec. 30. She was 6-of-13 (.462) from the field, including 3-of-5 (.600) from downtown. Morrow was also 6-of-6 (1.000) from the charity stripe. She sophomore added three rebounds, three steals and an assist in 30 minutes of action.
Morrow's 24 points in the second half of the Georgetown game was the first time a SU player has scored 20+ points in a half since Vaida Sipaviciute scored 23 in the second half at Albany on Dec. 20, 2005.
The second-year guard has now scored 15+ points in seven consecutive contests, including three consecutive 20+ point games.
She is averaging a team-best 19.5 points and a team-high 2.7 steals per contests. She has also added 4.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game. Morrow has 12 15-point plus and eight 20-point plus games. Her eight 20-point plus games rank tied for fifth (Erin Kenneally, 1992-93 & Felisha Legette, 1985-86) on SU's single-season chart. It also ranks currently ranks second in the BIG EAST. Morrow's 13 career 20-point plus games rank tied for second (Kim Dick, 1981-82) on SU's career list. Holly Oslander (1990-91, 93-94) holds the record with 14.
