Syracuse All-American fullback Tony Fiammetta (Walkersville, Md.) is the 43rd Orange football student-athlete to earn All-America honors and is the 52nd Syracuse player to earn an invitation to the Senior Bowl. The 2009 Senior Bowl will be played Saturday, January 24, 2009, in Mobile's Ladd-Peebles Stadium. Fiammetta, a 2008 Syracuse captain, was named to the 2008 Pro Football Weekly All-America Team, which annually honors the most talented players in college football and is determined based on considerable feedback from NFL evaluators taking into consideration a player's pure talent and contribution to his team.
Fiammetta played in 44 games for the Orange, as a fullback and on special teams. In 2008, he was a receiving threat out of the backfield and is the third-leading receiver (16 receptions for 127 yards). In his four years at Syracuse, Fiammetta had 16 carries for 89 yards, including a career-long 58-yard run at Cincinnati in his final game for the Orange, and 28 receptions for 202 yards and one touchdown.
