ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The two-time defending NCAA champion Orange lacrosse team split a pair of scrimmages on Saturday, Oct. 10 at the Navy Fall Classic. Syracuse defeated the host Midshipmen, 7-4, in its opening contest and lost, 10-6, to Harvard in the nightcap.
Senior captain
Chris Daniello paced the SU offense with five goals on the day. Daniello scored three times in the Navy victory and was the team’s only multi-goal scorer with two tallies versus the Crimson.
Against Navy, the Orange held a 4-2 lead at the half and took control the game by outscoring the Midshipmen, 3-0, in the third period to extend its margin to 7-2 before Navy rallied for a pair of fourth-quarter goals to produce the final score.

Tim Desko scored twice in the game and redshirt freshman
Steve Ianzito and senior
Max Bartig also found the cage. Redshirt freshman
Pete Coleman led the squad with two assists in the win.
Junior goalie
John Galloway played the first half and surrendered two goals, while making six saves. He was relieved by senior
Al Cavalieri, who played the final two quarters and registered three stops.
In the second scrimmage, Harvard scored five goals in the first quarter and held a 6-4 lead at the intermission. The Crimson’s offensive success continued in the second half as Harvard outscored SU, 3-0, to take a 9-4 lead after three quarters and eventually close out a 10-6 victory.
Cavalieri made five saves in the opening half between the pipes. He was replaced by sophomore
Paul Dubas, who recorded one save in two quarters of action.
Saturday’s scrimmages concluded a four-week fall practice season for the Orange that began on Wednesday, Sept. 9. Syracuse will head indoors to begin its winter conditioning program before returning to the field in January for the start of spring practice.
