Orange Nets Pair of Late Goals At UConn

STORRS, Conn. –
The Orange ice hockey team scored back-to-back goals in its 3-2 loss at Connecticut on Friday, Oct. 16. Sophomore Janelle Malcolm contributed one goal in the final minute of the second period, while junior co-captain Julie Rising notched her first of the season within the first five minutes of the final period.

Connecticut was off to a late start, scoring its first goal at the 15:54 mark of the opening stanza. The Huskies scored its last two goals in the second, and SU silenced UConn to a scoreless third period.

With only 51 ticks remaining in the second, Malcolm connected on a power-play from freshman Isabel Menard and sophomore Lisa Mullan to put Syracuse on the board. Rising kept the momentum going at 4:32 of the final stanza, with assists by junior co-captain Stefanie Marty and senior Brittaney Maschmeyer to settle the score, 3-2.

Senior goaltender Lucy Schoedel finished with 23 saves, while Connecticut’s Jennie Bellonio had 18. The Orange was 1-6 on the power-play, while UConn was 0-4.

The Orange travels to Providence to take on the Friars Saturday, Oct. 17 for a 4 p.m. contest.
