SYRACUSE – Syracuse University head women’s basketball coach Quentin Hillsman and his wife, Shandrist Hillsman, have partnered with the Vera House to help support the families affected by domestic and sexual violence. The Hillsmans will donate $100 to Vera House every time the Orange women score 70 or more points. Syracuse averaged 71.3 points per game last season, and broke the 70-point barrier 17 times.

“The Vera House does wonderful things for the Syracuse families and the community,” Hillsman said. “Shandrist and I looked at what they were doing and decided we wanted to be a part of lending a helping hand. As a whole, the Syracuse community has given Shandrist and me so much, we decided to give back.”

The Orange enter the season following a 2008-09 campaign which saw the team finish 17-15, as well as 5-11 in conference play. Syracuse reached the postseason for the second consecutive season, winning its first preseason game to Canisius, 90-65. SU played into the second round of the NIT before losing on the road to Bowling Green, 72-69.

Hillsman and his squad opens the season on Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. in a contest in the Carrier Dome against Farleigh Dickinson. Tickets are available now and can be purchased online or in person at the Carrier Dome Box Office.
