Flanagan Announces 2009-10 Captains

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse women's ice hockey head coach Paul Flanagan announced four assistant team captains for this year's squad on Monday, November 16. The four wearing the "A" are senior defenseman Brittaney Maschmeyer, senior goaltender Lucy Schoedel, junior forward Stefanie Marty and sophomore forward Janelle Malcolm.

Maschmeyer is senior transfer who spent her previous three years at St. Lawrence, where Flanagan coached for nine years prior to joining the inaugural Orange team. She has played in all 10 games this season and is tied for second on the team in assists, including two in the 4-3 win against Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Schoedel was a part of the original Orange in 2008-09 after playing two years at New Hampshire. After starting in net every game this season, she has earned a goals against average of 2.57 and a .903 saves percentage. She recorded a season-high 33 saves against No. 3 New Hampshire.

Marty returns as a co-captain from last year's squad after leading the team with 22 points on 10 goals and 12 assists. This year, she has played in every game and maintains a team-high 10 points on four goals and six assists. The Nussbaumen, Switzerland native has been a member of the Swiss National Team since 2003. She participated in the 2008 World Championship in Beijing, where her squad earned fourth place.

Malcolm leads this year's team with five goals and has tallied three assists. She matched her career-high with two goals in the season opener at No. 2 Minnesota, and recorded a personal-best two assists in the 3-2 victory against RPI. She also netted the game-winner in the sweep.

The Orange continues its CHA conference schedule when it travels to Robert Morris on Friday, November 20 for a 7 p.m. contest. It will wrap up its two-game series on Saturday, November 21 at 7 p.m.
