Pittsburgh, Pa.
– Freshman standout Isabel Menard set a career-high two goals as the Syracuse ice hockey team defeated Robert Morris, 4-0, on Friday, November 20. Freshman Holly Carrie-Mattimoe had a team-high four points on one goal and three assists, while sophomore Lisa Mullan scored the fourth goal in SU’s first shutout of the season. It was the first time SU has shutout an opponent on the road since it beat Quinnipiac, 2-0, on October 18, 2008.

Carrie-Mattimoe capitalized on a tripping penalty called on RMU’s Paige Peitrangelo midway through the opening period to give the Orange the 1-0 advantage. Mullan partnered with Menard on the assist, which put SU on the board first for the third consecutive game.

Syracuse continued to build on its lead within the first two minutes of the second period when sophomore Kylie Klassen and Carrie-Mattimoe assisted on Menard’s first goal of the night. The same line struck again less than 13 minutes later when Carrie-Mattimoe found Menard yet again to give SU the 3-0 lead.

With Robert Morris down one player after an interference penalty called on Jacki Gibson at the 17:03 mark of the second period, Carrie-Mattimoe teamed up with senior defenseman Brittaney Maschmeyer who aided on the assist to Mullan, who settled the 4-0 victory.

Senior goaltender Lucy Schoedel turned away all 32 shots, while Robert Morris’ Daneca Butterfield and Kristen DiCiocco combined for 19 saves on 23 shots.

The Orange will play its second game against the Colonials on Saturday, November 21 at 7 p.m.
