Face-Off Yearbook 2010 Rankings | Coaches Poll
BALTIMORE – The Syracuse Orange is ranked No. 1 in the 2010 Inside Lacrosse Face-Off Yearbook Coaches Preseason Top 25. The two-time defending national champions garnered 24 of 32 first-place votes and earned 789 points, 50 more than No. 2 Virginia (739 points).
In addition, Syracuse was ranked second in the preseason rankings generated by the magazine’s staff. Duke edged out the Orange for the yearbook’s top spot.
The Cavaliers earned one first-place nod in the coaches’ vote. The coaches ranked Duke third (six first-place votes and 727 points) followed by North Carolina (one first-place vote, 669 points) and Johns Hopkins (646 points).
In the rankings created by the Inside Lacrosse staff, the top five consisted of Duke and Syracuse followed Virginia, North Carolina and NCAA runner-up Cornell.
Head coach John Desko enters his 12th season at the helm of the SU program. Desko is 134-42 and has won five national championships in his first 11 years. Syracuse tied the school record with 16 victories in 2009 and won its 11th NCAA title with a 10-9 overtime win against Cornell in the national championship game.
