WASHINGTON D.C. -- Senior Katie Rowan has been selected as a nominee for the 2009 Tewaaraton Trophy, which is presented to the nation’s top lacrosse player. It marks the second straight year that Rowan has been nominated for the prestigious honor. She is one of 25 student-athletes, spanning all NCAA divisions, vying for the award.

Rowan leads the team and the BIG EAST in scoring, averaging 5.5 points per game. In the latest NCAA rankings, she ranks third in points and points per game. In addition, Rowan is fourth in assists and fifth in assists per game. Her 77 points rank fourth on the school’s single-season record list, while her 39 assists are the second-highest single-season mark in program history.

Rowan continues to climb the NCAA Division I career record lists. With six points against Cornell, she increased her career point total to 361. That figure ranks seventh on the all-time scoring list. Rowan claimed sole possession of fourth place on the career assists list with six against the Big Red, giving her 145 in her career.

The BIG EAST’s all-time leading scorer, Rowan became the 34th Division I player in NCAA history to score 200 career goals earlier this season. She also notched her 300th career point in the Orange’s win at California. She is the first Syracuse player to reach the 300-point plateau and just the 21st player in NCAA history. Rowan is the NCAA Division I active career leader in points and goals scored (216). In addition, she ranks second in assists (144).

The 2009 Tewaaraton Trophy will be handed out on May 28 at the ninth annual awards ceremony that will take place at the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C.
