SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Senior attacker Katie Rowan has been named to the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) All-America First Team for the third straight season. Junior midfielder Christina Dove was named to the second team, and junior attacker Halley Quillinan was a third-team selection.
In addition, five members of the Orange earned All-Northeast Region honors. Rowan, Dove, Quillinan and sophomore goalkeeper Liz Hogan (Victor, N.Y.) were voted to the first team, while junior defender Lindsay Rogers (Rochester, N.Y.) was a second-team honoree. The four first-team selections were the most for any school in the region.
Rowan is the first three-time first-team All-American in the program’s history, and she becomes just the fourth Syracuse female student-athlete to earn first-team All-America honors in the same sport in three consecutive seasons. The last student-athlete to accomplish the feat was Jillian Kott, a member of the Orange rowing team, who was a first-team All-America selection from 2000-02.
The most decorated women’s lacrosse player in school history, Rowan ends her career as Syracuse’s all-time leader in points (396), goals (232) and assists (164). She ranks fourth on the NCAA Division I all-time scoring list and third in career assists. In 2009, Rowan finished second in the nation in points (112), assists (58), points per game (5.89) and assists per game (3.05). She earned the BIG EAST co-Attack Player of the Year award and was a unanimous selection to the All-BIG EAST Team for the fourth straight year after leading the league in scoring. Rowan became the BIG EAST’s all-time leading scorer this season, finishing her career with 134 points in 22 regular-season games.
Dove was voted a second-team All-American for the second straight year. She earned the BIG EAST co-Midfielder of the Year award and was a unanimous All-BIG EAST First Team selection after leading the Orange with 59 goals. Dove ranked fourth in the BIG EAST and 20th in the nation with a 3.11 goal-per-game average. In addition, she led the league with seven game-winning goals. This season Dove climbed to second place on Syracuse’s career leader lists for points (238) and goals (181).
Quillinan earns All-America accolades for the second time in her career. She recorded 52 points on 45 goals and seven assists and was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team for the third straight year. In addition, Quillinan ranked second on the team in ground balls (27) and caused turnovers (18). She ranks fourth on SU’s all-time scoring list (186 points) and the career goals scored leader list (158).
Hogan is making her second consecutive appearance on the All-Region First Team. She led the BIG EAST with a 9.58 goals-against-average and ranked sixth with a .447 save percentage. Hogan, an All-BIG EAST First Team honoree, allowed less than 10 goals in nine games this season and helped the Orange limit its opponents to two or less goals in a half eight times. She recorded 10 saves in Syracuse’s NCAA quarterfinal game at No. 2 Maryland, marking the sixth time this season and 13th in her career that she reached double figures in saves in a game. Hogan led the team with 41 ground balls and ranked third with 17 caused turnovers. She also had an assist.
Rogers, who also earned All-Region honors last season, set the school single-season school record with 56 draw controls in 2009. In addition, she picked up 26 ground balls and caused 17 turnovers. Rogers earned All-BIG EAST Second Team honors this season.
Syracuse, under the direction of second-year head coach Gary Gait, finished the 2009 campaign with a 14-5 record and won a share of the BIG EAST regular-season title. The 14 victories are the second-highest single-season total in school history. The Orange earned the No. 7 seed in the NCAA Tournament where it advanced to the quarterfinals for the third straight year.
