Rowan and Thomas Shine at World Cup

PRAGUE, Czech Republic – Katie Rowan and Awehiyo Thomas, both 2009 graduates, have helped their teams to victories in the opening round of the FIL Women’s Lacrosse World Cup in Prague, Czech Republic.
Rowan has two goals and three assists in Team USA’s first two contests. She had four points (2g, 2a) in Team USA’s 17-8 victory against England to open the tournament. Rowan scored a goal and dished two assists in the second half as Team USA broke open a game that was tied, 6-6, at halftime. Against Canada, Rowan had an assist on Lindsey Munday’s goal that gave Team USA the lead for good as it posted an 11-4 victory. Team USA, which is 2-0 in Pool A, takes on Japan on Saturday.
Thomas netted five goals to lead the Haudenosaunee national team to a 20-0 victory against Austria in Pool C action. Haudenosaunee takes on Denmark on Saturday.
Pool play at the World Cup continues through June 22.
