SU Receives 158 All-Academic Nods

The BIG EAST has released the names of the 2,633 student athletes that received All-Academic honors for the 2008-2009 and there were 158 Syracuse University student-athletes that received the honor. To be named to the BIG EAST All-Academic Team, the student-athlete must maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher throughout the year and earn a varsity letter in a sport sponsored by the conference.

The Orange had the most All-Academic selections in the conference in two sports - volleyball and women's rowing. The SU volleyball team garnered a league-best 13 honorees, while the rowing team boasted 30 selections.

Individually, Syracuse had 14 student-athletes named to the team in each of their four years on campus. The swimming & diving team led the way with four four-time honorees: Peter Gollands, Colin Murphy, Dani Stein and Catrina Roth. The women’s soccer team had  three four-time honorees: Karrah Benson, Lauren Cappelli and Sarah VanSickle. The other four-time honorees were: Katie Rowan and Megan Mosenson from the women’s lacrosse team; Emily Kaier and Brittany Kern from the volleyball team; Kayla Carter from the women’s track & field team; Nana Sang-Bender from the women’s cross country team; and Lina Lisnere from the women’s basketball team.
