PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Freshman Brittany Anghel garnered BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week honors for her performance in two games this past weekend. In 200 minutes of play, Anghel did not allow a goal and recorded 14 saves. It is Anghel’s first career Player of the Week honor after being named to the league’s weekly Honor Roll twice this season.
It marks the first time a Syracuse player has been named Goalkeeper of the Week since the 2007 season when Eliza Bennett-Hattan earned the same honors. Anghel is the second Orange to earn Player of the Week accolades this season. Rosina Callisto was the Offensive Player of the Week for her efforts against St. John’s and Yale.
Against Rutgers, Anghel made eight saves to hold the Scarlet Knights scoreless in a 1-0 victory. It marked Syracuse’s first win against Rutgers since 2001. In a 0-0 tie in double overtime against Seton Hall, she made six saves. Anghel now has six shutouts on the year, which tie her for fourth on SU’s single-season leader list. In addition, her 85 saves is the sixth-highest single-season total in school history.
The Orange close out the regular-season this weekend with a pair of road games. Syracuse plays at Marquette on Friday at 8 p.m. and at South Florida on Sunday at 1 p.m.
