SYRACUSE, N.Y.
– For the second consecutive year, the Syracuse University men’s cross country team claimed the BIG EAST Championship. On the women’s side, SU tied its program-best third place finish from 2009. The event was hosted by Syracuse at Jamesville Beach Park and was the first time since the 2004 season that SU was able to perform in front of a home crowd.

Junior Pat Dupont was SU’s first runner to complete the 8k race in fourth place overall with a time of 25:15.5. Sophomore Forrest Misenti finished closely behind Dupont in sixth place at 25:19.9 and senior Steve Weeks earned a 10th-place finish (25:25.8). Dupont, Misenti and Weeks were each named to the All-BIG EAST honors list for their efforts. The rest of the championship team was comprised of Tito Medrano (25:46.4), Joseph Whelan (26:03.2), Steve Murdock (26:08.7) and Corey Robinson (26:10.7). The Orange finished with 59 points, four points ahead of second place Louisville.

History seemed to repeat itself as both the men and women’s champions from this year captured the team titles in Kenosha, Wis. in 2009. The first-ranked Villanova women’s squad took home the women’s title once again.

Senior Katie Hursey led all Orange women across the finish line in ninth place with a time of 21:15.1. Hursey and sophomore Sarah Pagano, who finished 14th overall (21:30.2), earned All-BIG EAST honors for their performances.

Head coach Chris Fox and the rest of the Orange staff were named the 2010 BIG EAST Men’s Coaching Staff of the Year after guiding the men’s team to back-to-back conference championships.
