Construction has begun in the Manley Field House Arena that will return it to its roots – but with a modern twist. The first phase of the renovation project that will transform the arena to an indoor practice facility started on Monday, June 14 with the dismantling of the portable bleachers.

The renovation will include the removal of the basketball court. The surface will then be covered with FieldTurf. In addition, a track surface will surround the field.

“The reconstruction of Manley is critical to the future success of our athletic programs,” said director of athletics Dr. Daryl Gross. “ As many are aware, Manley was built originally to be an indoor football practice facility. The reconstruction of Manley gives the football team a strategic practice area in times of inclement weather. It also allows our student-athletes opportunities to develop in the off season. Prior to the reconstruction, there were limited choices for opportunities to practice. Given (head football coach) Doug Marrone's innovative schemes, it is imperative that the student-athletes have off-season alternatives for voluntary or scheduled practice.”

The renovation will benefit nearly every Orange squad as it will provide another venue for practice and will lessen the burden on the Carrier Dome.

“The Olympic sports will be able to enhance their practice opportunities as well,” Gross said. “ As we continue to significantly improve our national stature, the Manley reconstruction will be vital in the future success of our programs.”

The renovation is expected to be completed this fall.
