Lauren Penney led the charge for the Syracuse women's cross country team for the third straight race with a 13th place finish individually, helping the Orange to a sixth place finish overall at the Wisconsin adidas Invitational on Friday. With 44 women's squads competing, SU had the second highest finish of a BIG EAST school, trailing behind only Villanova. The Syracuse men's team finished 22nd overall out of 39 teams.
The women had three harriers finish in the top 30 as freshman
Shaylyn Tuite finished 27th (20:46) and junior
Sarah Pagano placed 30th (20:48). Also competing for the SU women were
Heather Stephens (82nd; 21:12),
Natalie Busby (121st; 21:28),
Jessie Petersen (170th; 21:45) and
Cassie White (257th; 22:28).
Pat Dupont set the pace for the men's team with a 63rd place finish (24:36).
Tito Medrano and
Joseph Whelan battled down the stretch, finishing within two second of each other for 97th (24:48) and 100th place (24:50), respectively.
Forrest Misenti crossed the finish line with a time of 24:51, good for a 106th place finish while
Andrew Palmer (174th; 25:20),
Ryan Urie (185th; 25:26) and
Robert Molke (218th; 25:48) also ran for the Orange.
SU will return to the trails next Friday for the John Reif Memorial in Ithaca, N.Y. in the team's final tune-up before the BIG EAST Championship on October 29.
