2012 Lacrosse Magazine Preseason Rankings
BALTIMORE – The Syracuse Orange men's lacrosse team is eighth in the 2012
Lacrosse Magazine preseason Division I rankings, released Thursday, Dec. 29 on the magazine’s Web site. It’s the second preseason top 10 ranking for the Orange, which checked in at No. 7 in the
Inside Lacrosse Face-Off Yearbook preseason poll earlier this month.
Defending national champion Virginia tops the
Lacrosse Magazine preseason poll. The Cavaliers are followed by Duke, Johns Hopkins and Cornell. Denver rounds out the top five, with North Carolina, Maryland, Syracuse, Notre Dame and Villanova making up the rest of the top 10.
Cornell attackman Rob Pannell, last year’s Enners Award winner as the USILA Player of the Year, is
Lacrosse Magazine’s 2012 Preseason Player of the Year.
Syracuse returns two of its three leading scorers from last year’s 15-2 team. Junior
JoJo Marasco tied for team-high scoring honors with 41 points (33g, 8a) in 2011. In addition, the Orange brings back senior
Tommy Palasek, who finished with 17 goals and 18 assists a year ago.
The Orange begins the 2012 campaign on Feb. 5 with a three-way scrimmage against Le Moyne and Hofstra at the Carrier Dome. It opens the regular season at home against Albany on Feb. 19.
