Fifth-year senior point guard
Scoop Jardine, currently sixth on the Syracuse University career assists list, has taken his play to the next level over the last four contests, averaging eight assists and only one turnover per game. Also over that span, Jardine is averaging 9.3 points and scored in double-figures in three of the four games.
With 547 career assists, Jardine is behind SU assistant coach Adrian Autry, who is fifth on the career assists list with 631. Sherman Douglas is the SU all-time assists leader with 960, an average of 7.0 assists per game from 1985-89. Jardine’s guard coach, Gerry McNamara, is third on the career assists list with 648.
This season, Jardine’s 2.45 assist-to-turnover ratio ranks 38th in Division I basketball and is the third best amongst BIG EAST Conference players. He leads the Orange in this statistic, while SU has the third best assist-to-turnover ratio in the country at 1.54 per game.
Since the January 14th game against Providence, Jardine has totaled 32 assists, four turnovers and 37 points. In the Providence game, Jardine scored 10 points, had nine assists and no turnovers. On January 16th, Jardine recorded his second double-double of the season, tallying 12 points and 10 assists in a 71-63 win against Pittsburgh.
On January 21st at Notre Dame, Jardine had two points and seven assists and on January 23rd, he scored 13 points, added six assists and had zero turnovers in a 60-53 win at Cincinnati.
Jardine is averaging 8.5 points, 4.95 assists and 2.2 rebounds per game in total this season, and is sixth among BIG EAST players in assists per game. He is even better in conference play, averaging 6.44 assists in BIG EAST games, ranking him third.
He has scored in double-figures in 10 of 22 games this year and has had at least six assists in a game eight times. Earlier this season against Florida, Jardine became the 56th player in school history to record 1,000 career points.
