NEW YORK
– Freshman guard Michael Carter-Williams’s dunk against St. John’s was voted the NCAA Play of the Week.

The dunk came with 9:30 remaining in the second half, as the Orange was leading 66-46. Off a fast break, Carter-Williams accelerated to the basket and threw down a one-handed slam over St. John’s forward God’sgift Achiuwa. The dunk brought the predominantly orange crowd to its feet in a sold-out Madison Square Garden.

“Coach was just telling me I had a wide open lane in the first half and I should have dunked it, just like in practice. I was mad at myself because I didn’t go up strong and I turned the ball over too. So the next time I tried to be aggressive and it worked out for me,” Carter-Williams said about the dunk.

As a part of ESPN’s Rivalry Week, the Orange has two contests at home, first against Georgetown (Wednesday 7:00 p.m., ESPN) and followed by a date with Connecticut (Saturday 1:00 p.m., CBS).
