Redshirt Sophomore Year: He ranked second in the BIG EAST Conference and ninth in the nation in field-goal percentage (.628)… He posted the fourth-best single-season field-goal percentage in SU history … During one stretch he made 17 shots in a row … Onuaku made 30-of-33 from the floor during the course of four games against RHODE ISLAND, EAST TENNESSEE STATE, COLGATE and CORNELL … He produced the best scoring average by an SU center (12.7 ppg.) since current NBA performer Etan Thomas averaged 13.6 points per outing during the 1999-00 campaign … Onuaku had 10 double-doubles, including six in BIG EAST Conference play … He scored in double figures in 24-of-35 games He served notice early with 12 points and six rebounds in the opener against SIENA … It was his first career start … Onuaku’s first double-double of the season was a 20-point, 10-board effort against MASSACHUSETTS … He followed that up with 14 points and a career-high 16 rebounds versus TULANE… He had a stretch of seven games with double-digit points, starting with EAST TENNESSEE STATE and finishing with USF … Onuaku averaged 14.4 points during the span … One of his top showings during the run was a 23--point, 13-board effort in a win against ST. Sophomore Year: Onuaku had left knee surgery and missed the entire year … He was awarded a medical redshirt … For the second straight year he was named to the BIG EAST Conference All-Academic Team … Onuaku also earned a spot on the SU Athletic Directors’ Honor Roll following the fall and spring semesters.
Freshman Year: He had eight boards in just eight minutes of action against ILLINOIS-CHICAGO… He tied his previous career highs with six points and eight rebounds versus the BEARCATS … He saw action in 13-of-16 BIG EAST Conference regular-season outings … Onuaku’s team-high eight rebounds against TEXAS TECH made him the first SU freshman to lead the team in rebounding since Demetris Nichols in 2004 … He was named to the BIG EAST Conference All-Academic Team and earned SU Athletic Directors Honor Roll recognition in each of his first two semesters.
High School: Onuaku earned the Episcopal High School William Caskie Watts MVP Award in 2005… He helped his squad to a 12-11 record … He was coached by Tim Jaeger … Onuaku scored a season-high 39 points in a 66-53 victory against Landon … He also contributed 14 rebounds and four blocks in the triumph … When Episcopal opened the season with a 48-38 win against Bishop Ireton, he contributed 27 points, 10 rebounds and four steals … He had 21 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks versus Georgetown Prep in a 48-46 victory… Onuaku started a string of four straight double-doubles with his effort against Landon … Two nights later against St. Albans, he had 16 points and 11 rebounds as his club won, 55-42 … Onuaku then tallied 28 points and 11 rebounds to help Episcopal past Georgetown Prep, 78-69 … A return engagement with Landon led to a 67-59 triumph in two overtimes … Onuaku had 22 points, 20 rebounds and four blocks … He was rated the 13th best center in the Class of 2005 by TheInsidersHoops.com and was a two-star recruit by Rivals.com.
