Sophomore forward Rebecca Gordon, native of St. Catharines, Ontario, comes to Syracuse via Clarkson University. While at Clarkson, Gordon played in 37 games and tallied two points, coming from a goal and an assist. Sophomore back <B>Maggie Befort (Mechanicsville, Pa.) </B>earned BIG EAST Honor Roll honors for her performances in the Orange’s two contests.  This is the third time that Taylor has earned the BIG EAST weekly honors. She was named the Offensive Player of the Week on September 8 and to the BIG EAST Honor Roll last week. The Syracuse women’s team moved up one spot into third while the men held onto their third-place ranking for the three weeks in a row in the Northeast Region. The Orange men received its highest national preseason ranking in program history when the USTFCCCA announced Syracuse as the 28th best team in the country. As of week two, the Syracuse men are ranked 30th in the nation. Cavicchia is the first SU keeper to earn the honor in more than five years (Alim Karim, Sept. 8, 2003). The award marks the third time Cavicchia has been recognized by the league this season, having earned BIG EAST Honor Roll status twice previously.

Cavicchia recorded his seventh shutout of the season on Friday, Oct. 3 at #9/13 USF. Cavicchia made a season-high eight saves in the contest, including one in the second overtime to preserve a 0-0 draw against the Bulls. Field Hockey is the lone unbeaten team in NCAA field hockey after posting wins against Albany and Yale. Men’s soccer cut South Florida’s five-game winning streak short in a 0-0 tie in Tampa, Fla. Volleyball played two four-set matches, posting a win against Connecticut in its BIG EAST home opener. After having its Friday match at Georgetown postponed, the women’s soccer team lost, 3-0, to Villanova. The men’s and women’s cross country teams competed in the 35th</SUP> annual Paul Short Invitational on Friday. The men finished second and the women finished fifth. Schomaker led the Orange with two shots on target. The senior has started all 10 games this season, recording one goal and one assist in 2008. Schomaker’s one goal this season was the difference-maker against Marquette.
