Johnston helped the Orange to a combined 21-2-1 record in his final two seasons. He was a bruising lead blocker for clubs that reached the 1988 Sugar and 1989 Hall of Fame bowls. Johnston had a highly productive NFL career, earning All-Pro twice and playing on three Super Bowl winning clubs with the Dallas Cowboys. He was named to Syracuse University's All-Century team in November, 1999.
