Fleck helped stabilize a defensive line that led the Orange to its first-ever bowl game in 1952. The 1953 season saw the Orange defense allow only 1,769 yards, the third-lowest total in SU history. Fleck earned All-American honors in 1952 and 1953. He was selected in the second round of the NFL Draft by the Green Bay Packers. Fleck was named to Syracuse University's All-Century team in November, 1999.
