In 1926, Hanson was a consensus All-American. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1973, which allowed him to become the only player to be in both the College Football and Basketball Halls of Fames. Hanson also served as the program’s head coach for seven seasons. He was named to Syracuse University's All-Century team in November, 1999.
