Preston, a captain in 1975, was named MVP that same season. He was invited to the East-West All Star game. He then moved on after Syracuse to play linebacker for San Diego from 1976-84. In 1979, Preston had his best year compiling 116 tackles and recording five interceptions for 121 yards.
