Syracuse won the opening coin toss and deferred to the second half.
 
Pitt’s seven points in the first quarter represented the first points allowed by the Orange in the opening period since the season opener at Wake Forest on Sept. 2.
 
Dowayne Davis recorded his first forced fumble of the season and second of his career in the first quarter. The fumble was recovered by Tony Jenkins. It was his first recovery of the season and first since 2004 vs. Connecticut.
 
Donte Davis’ 26-yard reception in the second quarter was the longest of his career. His five receptions and 53 receiving yards were both career highs as well.
 
Perry Patterson passed Don McPherson for third all-time in pass attempts (711). On the same drive, he also passed Tony Nunes for fourth all-time in pass completions (379).
 
The Orange failed to score in the first quarter for the first time this season.
 
Patrick Shadle’s 44-yard goal in the second quarter was his ninth field goal of the season and is now 9-of-10 (.900) for the season, which ranks second on Syracuse’s single-season field goal percentage list.
 
Delone Carter’s 15-yard reception in the second quarter was the longest of his career. He also set career highs in pass receptions and receiving yards with two catches for 22 yards.
 
Largo Stephens-Howling’s 70-yard touchdown run was the longest run surrendered by the Orange this season. It was the longest touchdown run by an opponent since George Stripling’s 89-yard touchdown run for Louisville in 2005’s season finale. His 221 yards were the most given up by the Orange this season and the most since Andre Hall rushed for 222 yards for South Florida last season.
 
The Orange was held without a touchdown in the first half for the first time this season.
 
Joe Fields matched his career high with one pass breakup.
 
Rice Moss’s streak of consecutive games with a catch was ended at 17, tied for the seventh longest streak in school history.
 
Brendan Carney punted five times for 204 yards, tying him with Jim Fox for second all time in career punts with 235.
 
Terrell Lemon recorded his first career sack in the fourth quarter for a loss of eight yards.
 
Bruce Williams returned his first punt of the season for five yards.
 
Mike Williams’ 29-yard fourth quarter touchdown reception was the first of his career as well as the longest reception of his career. His 57 receiving yards set a career high and his three receptions tied a career high.
