South Florida won the opening coin toss and deferred to the second half.
 
Freshman receiver Mike Williams moved into second on SU’s receptions by a freshman ledger. He had four catches in the game to increase his season total to 22. Williams caught his fourth TD of the season in the fourth quarter.
 
Senior quarterback Perry Patterson moved into the top 10 on SU’s single-season completions list. He completed 15 passes and now has 142 this year which is tied for seventh. He also moved up to sixth on the Orange’s season passing attempts list with 266. He had 29 passes attempts against the Bulls.
 
Patterson moved into fifth place on SU’s career touchdown passes chart (24) with his 27-yard TD toss to Mike Williams in the fourth quarter.
 
Sophomore kicker Patrick Shadle hit his 13th consecutive field goal when he drilled a 29-yarder in the first quarter. It is the longest consecutive field goals made streak for an SU kicker since Nate Trout made 16 in a row from 1998-99.
 
His streak came to an end in the second quarter when his 45-yard attempt hit the upright. It was Shadle’s first miss since the Iowa game on Sept. 9.
 
Freshman tailback Delone Carter broke free for a 47-yard rush in the second quarter. It was the longest carry of his career.
 
Carter rushed 12 times for 86 yards to move into second on SU’s freshman rushing list (573). Joe Morris holds the Orange rookie record with 1,001 rushing yards in 1978.
 
Sophomore tight end Tom Ferron made two receptions against South Florida. He is tied for fourth on SU’s season receptions by a tight end list (28).
 
Senior linebacker Kelvin Smith forced his third career fumble to thwart a Bulls’ scoring drive in the third quarter. Junior Jameel McClain fell on it for his second-career fumble recovery.
 
Defensive back A.J. Brown made his team-leading third interception to stop another South Florida drive in the third quarter.
 
Redshirt freshman Arthur Jones recovered the first fumble of his career in the third quarter.
 
Sophomore John Barker saw his first career action at wide receiver.
 
Matt Grothe’s 79-yard touchdown pass to Taurus Johnson in the third quarter was the longest play SU allowed from scrimmage this year.
