Former Syracuse Head Coach Dick MacPherson's Remarks on Head Coach Doug Marrone
“Doug (Marrone) is an alum and therefore he knows the atmosphere and the recruiting area of Syracuse University. He knows the talent level that’s needed to succeed here and he has a good relationship with the high school coaches to successfully recruit the players that he needs to win.
“This is a school that needs a good recruiter. Syracuse University isn’t a selector. Selectors are Notre Dame and Michigan and places like that. But I’ll tell you right now Doug will make this a selector school. Once again we want people dreaming of coming to Syracuse University. I’m tired of people saying ‘What’s wrong with Syracuse University football?’ That’s over starting today because Doug is here.
“I think you’ll love Doug. I do. I think you’ll find he’s going to be an excellent recruiter. That’s absolutely essential for success here. You have to be able to recruit great athletes. Doug will surround himself with good coaches and he will be on the path to winning very soon.
“And the last thing I’ll say is that I hope every seat in the Dome is filled with people cheering the Orange on. I’ve had enough of this moaning and groaning. It’s time for cheering. So get out there and buy your tickets and let's go Orange!"
