Bob Miron, Board of Trustee Member, on Head Coach Doug Marrone
“I’ve had a great time working with this group, and we put in a lot of hours, between John Chapple, Howie Phanstiel and me. We sure needed the football minds to tell us and lead us, with Floyd Little, Art Monk, Tim Green and Coach Mac (MacPherson). I just want to say that I am very excited about Doug Marrone as the next SU football head coach. We met and interviewed a bunch of candidates and we were very impressed by Doug right from the start. First, he is one of us. As it has been said before, he is Orange through and through, and he can make a great triumvirate with Jim Boeheim and John Desko. They are all SU guys and, by the way, each one of them has now had their first head coaching job at their alma mater. Second, he is a New York guy with excellent relations with the Eastern high school coaches. He will be able to recruit in the Northeast and it is something we desperately need. Third, the football guys on our committee were all impressed. They felt strongly about Doug. We all did, and I am sure they will speak for themselves, as well. Doug is a high-energy, knowledgeable football guy with a great feeling for the Orange, and we know he is the right person for our program and our community. I am very pleased with the choice, and Doug, we are all with you. Good luck.”
