Syracuse vs. Del State
December 6, 2008, 2008
Carrier Dome/Syracuse, N.Y.
Erica Morrow, sophomore guard:
On preparing for the game:
“I think we just focused on trying to take care of the ball and just running off that. We prepared for this game like we prepare for every game and execute our offense and our scouting reports.”
On the turnovers:
“Like Coach said, there were a few things in transition. We are playing a lot fast this year, so we are bound to make a little more turnovers. It is something we are going to work on for the next eight days before the next game. We will work on that and getting back to our old ways.”
On defense:
“I think we picked it up a notch. I think we were a little more intense on defense. I mean I was just anticipating and playing in the passing lane.”
On winning by 20 and not 30:
“That was what he said, we were tired and everything. We had a long road trip but at the end of the day when you see the wins and losses it doesn’t tell you how many points. Any win by one point is a win and that is good for us.”
On missing free-throws:
“We just have to refocus and concentrate more. We had practice yesterday. We had a few days to get our legs rested. Free throws is just concentration, we’ll get in the gym in the next few days and refocus.”
Tasha Harris, sophomore guard
On leadership position:
“I know I had to be a leader when the start of the season began. Coach spoke to me a lot. With time and practice, I speak, I am more vocal. I lead my team but I have to do a better job. Coach spoke to me about doing a better job in each game. I know my team looks up to me so I try my best to keep my head on right, so they can do the same. I know they follow me and pay attention, body language, stuff like that.”
On personality:
“I am not quiet. It is just that sometimes there a lot of personalities so I don’t want to come off the wrong way. A lot of times after practices or games I go back in the locker room and I talk to them and tell them that I didn’t mean it; it is just in the heat of the game. My teammates are teaching me on how to speak to them properly, tone of voice. It is coming along.”
On up-coming days off:
“My legs are hurting, but it is a nice break. But still you really can’t take any days off. You still have to get in there, put some shots up. It only takes around three days to get out-of-shape. It is really not totally days off but I’ll take them.”
Vionca Murray, Junior Forward:
On what she has been working on:
“Yea that’s what I’ve been working on. It is important for me as a post player to keep my position in regards to the team. I need to make it easier to get the ball to me, so I’ve been working on boxing out and doing my job.”
On injured calf:
“The calf is much better. I am back into it. It is back to where it should be.”
On personal role of the team:
“I am always going to play heard but I realized I got to step up. I got to do my job because I know it is going to be tough this year, once we get into the BIG EAST.
