Student-Athlete Quotes
Syracuse v. Colgate
April 16, 2008
Carrier Dome – Syracuse, N.Y.

Katie Rowan, Jr., Attack

On setting the SU career points record:
“It is really an honor because of all the great players that have played here at Syracuse. We have a great team this year, the defense is playing awesome, causing a lot of turnovers and the middies are doing a great job bringing it up and we’re just looking to score on attack.”

On whether she foresaw her success coming in as a freshman:
“Coming to play Division I lacrosse, you don’t really know what to expect and I wasn’t really sure what my role on the team would be coming in. Freshman year they saw I was a dodger and I just get a lot of opportunities.”

On the team not being as crisp in the first two minutes:
“With the senior night and everything, we were probably not as focused as we should have been. But that has been the goal all year to stay mentally focused and get pumped up for every game and play the full 60 minutes.”

On what a top four NCAA seed would mean to the team:
“I think it’s huge. Everyone wants to be able to come back here and play in the Dome again. The seniors want to come for their graduation and be able to play here the Sunday after. Coming into our last regular-season games in the BIG EAST, we just want to keep executing and come out with victories.”

On what the team can take away from games like this:
“We just want everything to be really crisp – groundballs, draw controls, team defense, team attack. We just want everything to be perfect almost and really the best for the full 60 minutes.”

Halley Quillinan, So., Attack

On a lot of incomplete passes at the beginning of the game:
“It wasn’t the best start but they called a timeout and that is when we decided to put it together and really play a complete game, get the passes on the stick, get the ground balls, the draw controls, everything.”

On what changed following the first two minutes of the game:
“I think that what we were trying to do was just really push it on offense, get our defense to cause turnovers, get the ball up the field and really push it and focus on placing our shots.”

On whether it is hard to keep focused going when going against an unranked team:
“I think that’s what we have to do. I think at this point in the season, especially for the BIG EAST Tournament, we have to remain focused in all of our games and for a full 60 minutes. I don’t think we did that today for the full 60 minutes, but I think we put it together and I hope we continue to do that.”

On what it would mean to go undefeated in the BIG EAST:
“It is something that Syracuse has never done before, we’ve never gone undefeated in BIG EAST play and it is something that we are looking forward to do. We need to go down to Loyola and play a complete game, come out strong because I think they’re looking to be a spoiler. They’re a physical team, they’re a good team we need to come out strong and hopefully we get a top seed in the BIG EAST Tournament.”

On how the team’s height advantage helps:
“Height is definitely an advantage in this game and on draw controls it is huge. The ball goes up and we have girls that are 5’9”, 5’10”, 5’11” right in the circle. I think that is a huge advantage, not just for me but for Megan (Mosenson), Katie (Rowan), Christina Dove, Eileen Finn, Rebecca Greenslade. We have a tall team and I think height definitely plays a role in getting those errant passes, draw controls, little things like that.”

Megan Mosenson, Jr., Attack

On what she sees in teammate Katie Rowan:
“She executes very well, whenever she gets the ball she doesn’t hesitate. She is a very smart player and she reads the plays well. When she has her chances she takes them which is why she is so successful.”

On whether Rowan has done anything different this year:
“I feel like she has been doing what she’s always been doing. She is just very athletic and physical and when she has the chances to score she does. She has done a great job.”

On her transformation from last season:
“This year has been great. Last year I was on and off, my knee still hurt and I was still working on gaining my mobility and strength back. Finally this year everything finally feels right so it is great to be able to be such an impact player and to be out on the field and just do what I’ve always wanted to do. This year has definitely been better than the last two.”
